Welcome to CAPSLE

Welcome to the online home of CAPSLE – the Canadian Association for the Practical Study of Law in Education. Here you will find information about the organization and its members, as well as the benefits that CAPSLE offers to its membership groups.

CAPSLE is Canada’s leading resource for learning, connecting, and growing in the field of education law. Our membership includes practitioners from a wide array of stakeholders in the education sector, from academics in the field of education, Principals and Vice-Principals, teachers, school board members and trustees, education union executives, education employers, government representatives, and legal counsel specializing in education, employment, and labour law. Our members, regardless of their roles, share a common interest in ensuring Canada has and maintains the best education system it possibly can, not only for its students, but also for all its stakeholder groups.

Each year, the highlight of our CAPSLE calendar is our annual conference, typically held in cities around the country, inviting our members to meet, network, and learn together in Canada’s premier professional development opportunity for practitioners in the field of education law. With keynote speakers, panels, plenaries, and a wide array of breakout sessions, the annual CAPSLE conference is a highly anticipated annual event.

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly altered our operations but not our passion for providing educational law information and opportunities to learn from our colleagues from coast to coast to coast. While the rapid onset of COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the 202 CAPSLE conference in Ottawa, this year, we were able to pivot to an all virtual format to tremendous success, due to the excellent, creative work of our conference planning committee. While the format fate of our next annual conference remains to be determined, what is not in question is our commitment to providing the best professional development and networking opportunity, whether in person or online.

In the coming year, the board will continue to seek way to engage with the membership. We have now successfully hosted a number of webinars that were well received. Throughout the coming year, we plan to bring webinars, articles, and hopefully other means to connect, discuss and grow.

Be sure to watch for CAPSLE emails, the website, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and spread the word. We look forward to a great year ahead.
